One month later in Penola: My time is soon over as vineyard worker

Now it has been decided; Tuesday the 15th of December we quit our career as vineyard workers. I spoke to big boss today who said he will have work for me and Sofia until then. It feels very good to have a target to aim for. The days go very much faster and feel better. The plan is to head west on Wednesday morning against Beach Port. Beach Port is a small town with a nice beach and great fishing. Not surprising maybe…

After a tip from traveler and former fellow vineyard worker Ben we are planning to stay a week on a campervan park. The Campervan Park in Beach Port costs about $30 per night for a site of a few square meters. On the camping site we park our car which we also will sleep in. All campervan parks have showers, kitchen and the facilities you need besides the bed we find in our car; very cheap and convenient for travelers…

I and Sofia have started to get irritated on our housemates. There are only two left and they does not contribute on making the dish, cleaning the toilets etc. Also they lift with us each day and like to smoke which has negative impact on our car. Last night I saw our sausages being cooked for their dinner. This was too much for us. Sofia got them to rethink and get us new sausages! Hopefully they see their mistake. For some reason I have very hard to start a fight or tell people off. This is something I must start practicing!

After today’s work I and Sofia decided to celebrate the weekend. Our boss hosts a garden party tonight which we did not get invited to L. However we have bunked up with five movies, red wine, grapes, salty crackers, cheese and pears. Somewhat of a luxury it feels like!

The rainbow has visited Penola a couple of times the last week. The weather has been unstable and work has been wet for a change. Sunday’s forecast brings hope with warm winds coming in from east. Hopefully this will be right in time until after we have finished the five movies:

Another thing I might share with you before closing this post is how my nicknames for Sofia have developed. S and Karlsson has probably been the most popular. Recently Karlsson has been twisted to Karli. The other day it got up for me when I heard the Indians at work speaking. Wait a minute. Isn’t Kali the name of an Hindu goddess which has the following description in Wikipedia:

Kali (SanskritकालीBengaliকালী, both Kālī), also known as Kalika (BengaliকালিকাKālikā), is considered Hindu goddess associated with eternal energy. The name Kali means “black”, but has by folk etymology come to mean “force of time (kala)”. Despite her negative connotations, Kali is today considered the goddess of time and change. Although sometimes presented as dark and violent, her earliest incarnation as a figure of annihilation still has some influence.
