Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Getting that great idea!
Today I am really happy. I think our group has really achieved something; an idea that has super potential! We have had some good ones but this one is just great. Suddenly I have turned from sceptical to enthusiastic about the foresight of doing a second start-up!
Getting that idea is not easy. It has got to solve a real existing problem, beat the competition, be possible to sell with a profitable business model and… However the hard part should, according to theory, be to implement the idea. Let’s see what the future brings.

Planning holidays
We have started to settle now in Australia. This can be noted from many signs especially that my flow rate of blog posts has started to decrease. Life flows on in Sydney. Last week I had a mid semester test in Business Process Improvement and Quality Management. This week I have a few assignments to hand in. I will also be moderating a focus group for the course Applied Marketing Research. It is I and a native Australian that has been elected to be moderators. I am slightly nervous but I do feel that it will sort out.
On Friday afternoon we fly to Cairns where we arrive at 18.30. I so much look forward to a pool, heat and some rest. It has been tough weeks until now! In Cairns we have booked accommodation in Cairns city and in a smaller town called Port Douglas which is one hour drive north of Cairns. The plan is to have a visit to the rain forest, have a look at the reef and just relax.

Picking kiwi
Also we have been looking another two months ahead after this semester is finished and started to plan for the holidays. Guests will be arriving from Sweden during the entire break, but it looks like we will have some time to travel and work right after the school has finished and also in a period before school will start for next year. Picking fruit is one option that we are considering while travelling the country. Thousands of people are seasonal workers in Australia travelling from farm to farm and picking. Fruit picking will give us a chance to see inner Australia, since most of the farms are not located at the coast line. Fruit picking are maybe not the most challenging job in the world but I think I will enjoy working with my hands for a while. However I will of course consider other work options as well.
The first
It has been a few first day or first moments the past few days now. This is actually the first post I make from Sydney. I write this after the first day in Sydney. I and Sofia are relaxing at the hostel with headaches. Probably it is due to the jet lag from the flight. To solve the problem we have invested in a bottle of Australian wine which we consume together with what is left of the travel candy.

Drinking tee
The first accommodation
The hostel is ok. Roof, water, somewhere to cook and a bed, everything you need! Although it gets quite cold after sunset so it is comfortable to be two! I have also looked a lot for cockroaches. I have heard that they are not very uncommon and this might be a convenient place for them to live (↓)?
The first time flying an A380!
The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger aircraft: Two floors all the way and 11 seats wide. I think that there is only a few of this kind in operation today, but it might be a steady growing number. Quantas has a few operating between Sydney and London.
First day in Sydney
Today we went to the registration office at University of New South Wales. It is a very beautiful campus with parks and green areas and modern buildings. At the exchange office we checked the status with our courses and got some other useful information. I have two courses I wish to change before next week. This concerns me a little but I hope I can fix it on Monday.
We also received with UNSW ID cards and wireless access but I ran out of battery so this is posted the day after it was written.
Tomorrow we will be moving to our home for the next few weeks. We passed the house today and it looked promising.
A few impressions so far are:
- Coogee beach
- Cheap meat, expensive living and vegetables
- Huge birds at campus with long beaks
- Left side driving!
- Extremely hilly in Sydney, not as I imagined from Google’s street walk.
